Donald Glover (Solo: A Star Wars Story), the star of FX’s hit comedy series, Atlanta, revealed to People Magazine in a new interview that he had talked to Ryan Gosling (La La Land) about potentially guest starring on the comedy during their third season, but the plans ended up falling through.
“He said he was a big fan, but he had something else, and it just didn’t work out,” Glover told the magazine. “I was so bummed because the part was so great for him!”
Glover also said he and Gosling had spoken on the phone to discuss the potential role. He said they “were going to do it,” but then a conflict for Gosling came up, according to People Magazine.
Gosling has a packed schedule coming up as he is starring in multiple upcoming films such as The Gray Man, Wolfman, and Barbie, according to Deadline. So, it seems as though one of those films coincided with filming for Atlanta.
The show has featured many notable guest stars throughout its run, including Jaleel White (Family Matters), Katt Williams (Friday After Next), Migos, the Atlanta-born rap group, and Michael Vick, the ex-NFL quarterback.
Season three of Atlanta started this past week on Thursday and will feature 10 episodes. These are the first episodes in nearly four years, with season two ending in May 2018.
The comedy stars Glover and also has Brian Tyree Henry (If Beale Street Could Talk), LaKeith Stanfield (The Harder They Fall), and Zazie Beetz (Joker) in recurring roles. Glover also created the series and is an executive producer along with his brother, Stephen Glover (Guava Island), Dianne McGunigle (Cop Car), Hiro Murai (Station Eleven), Alex Orr (Blue Ruin), Paul Simms (Fight Of The Conchords), and Stefani Robinson (What We Do In The Shadows). FX Productions produces the series.
