Starz released the first look of their upcoming comedy from Yvette Lee Bowser (For Your Love, Lush Life). According to Shadow and Act, a teaser trailer for Run the World dropped Wednesday. Check out the teaser trailer below.
Here is the official logline via Shadow and Act: “Run the World is the story of a group of Black women – vibrant, fiercely loyal best friends – who work, live, and play in Harlem as they strive for world domination. At its core, it’s an unapologetically female show about enviable friendship and not only surviving – but thriving together.”millienmillicent
According to Shadow and Act, the series stars four core cast members – Amber Stevens West (The Carmichael Show, Love Jacked), Andrea Bordeaux (Can’t Buy My Love, NCIS: Los Angeles), Bresha Webb (Marlon, A Fall From Grace), and Corbin Reed (Blair Witch, Valor). The series also cast Tosin Morohunfola (Black Box, Friend Request) and Stephen Bishop (Fatal Affair, Moneyball) as regulars with Nick Sagar (The Princess Switch, Shadowhunters), Jay Walker (Coin Heist, Sleight), and Tonya Pinkins (Above the Rim, Enchanted) in recurring roles.
In recent months, the series announced the additional casting of Living Single alumna Erika Alexander (Get Out, Wu-Tang: An American Saga). Alexander is best known for playing Maxine Shaw on the 90s sitcom created by Bowser. Living Single had a similar premise to Run the World, as it followed a group of five twenty-something friends living in New York. The Fox comedy starred Queen Latifah (Bessie, The Equalizer), Kim Coles (In Living Color, One on One), Kim Fields (The Real Housewives of Atlanta, The Facts of Life), T.C. Carson (Greenleaf, Final Destination 2), and John Henton (The Hughleys, Black in the 80s). The series ran for five seasons.
According to Shadow and Act, the show is produced through Lionsgate Television with Millicent Shelton (Ride, Hornet’s Nest), Justin Tipping (Kicks, Nani), Jenee Lamarque (The Pretty One, The Feels), and Nastaran Dibai (Dear White People, Rita Rocks) all attached to direct the eight-episode season.
