Starz has officially renewed Run the World for a second season, via Deadline. The new season will have a new showrunner, Rachelle Williams (Survivor’s Remorse), who will be replacing original showrunner Yvette Lee Browser (Living Single). Browser will stay on as executive producer.
Set in Harlem, Run the World follows a group of smart, funny, and vibrant thirty-something-year-old Black women and loyal best friends who navigate through hookups, breakups, relationships, and their careers as they strive for world domination. At its core, Run the World is an unapologetically female series about enviable friendship and not only surviving but thriving together. The series was created by Leigh Davenport (Boomerang), who is also an executive producer.
The series stars Amber Stevens West (Greek), Breesha Webb (#blackAF), Andrea Bordeaux (Can’t Buy My Love), and Corbin Reid (Valor) as four leading friends, alongside Stephen Bishop (Moneyball) and Tosin Morohunfola (Black Box).
“Run the World has been so passionately embraced by our audience and we are thrilled to bring fans another season,” Starz’s President of Domestic Networks Allison Hoffman told Deadline. “Our incredibly talented cast and executive producers Yvette and Leigh are set to return, and we’re excited to welcome Rachelle back into the Starz family leading as showrunner and executive producer.”
Run the World recently concluded its eight-episode first season. An episode count nor a released date has been announced for season two.
