According to Deadline, there is a growing sense of suspicion in Hollywood surrounding Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, Trial of the Chicago 7) and his possible Marvel Cinematic debut as the demon supervillain, Mephisto. The current rumors circulating around tinsel town argue that Cohen will likely appear as the beloved comic book villain in the upcoming Disney+ series, Ironheart.
Cohen has been spotted at the Marvel facilities located in Pinewood Studios, an English production company, though Marvel representatives and even Cohen himself have refused to comment on his potential role in the MCU. According to Deadline, a trustworthy source working closely with the new Marvel television show has confirmed that the word around set is Cohen will be a part of Ironheart as a supervillain, most likely the demon Mephisto.
In the comics, Mephisto is an anarchic, demonic entity who has served as a recurring antagonist for such heroes like the Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider, and even Spider-Man. Fans of the character have been waiting for further information from Marvel about the future of Mephisto in the MCU following several easter eggs in WandaVision that hinted to his possible existence.
If so, it’s very likely that Cohen’s involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may surpass the scope of just Ironheart and possibly onto many more projects down the line.
Deadline also claims that these rumors regarding Cohen’s possible status within the MCU began circulating on social media just this past weekend after multiple comic-centered Twitter accounts announced that Cohen would likely be cast as a villain in an upcoming Marvel project, with almost all signs pointing to the character of Mephisto.
Ironheart will be a six-episode series created by Chinaka Hodge (The Midnight Club, Snowpiercer), starring Dominique Thorne (Judas and the Black Messiah, If Beale Street Could Talk) as the titular character of Ironheart, also known as Riri Williams, a brilliant savant and tech wizard who inherits the legacy of the late Iron Man after building one of the most complex armor suits in the whole world.
Currently, Ironheart is still filming and is expected to release sometime in late 2023. For more information on Ironheart, check out our other article: Here.
