According to a press release, HBO just announced the new comedy starring Steve Carell (40 year old Virgin, Space Force) call, ‘Rooster’. The first airdate will be March 2026. All ten episodes will be available to view on HBO. The Executive producers of the show are Bill Lawrence (Head of the Class, Ted Lasso) and Matt Lawerence (Scrubs, Sports Night). The two also will serve as co-showrunners.
The press release also just released the current longline which is, “A comedy set on a college campus centering on an author’s, played by Carell, complicated relationship with his daughter who is played by the actress Charly Clive (The Farewell Tour of Witch’s Tyt, Mother Wound). Additional cast members include, Danielle Deadwyler (The Women in the Yard, Carry-on), Phil Dunster (The Devil’s Hour, Blake & Mortimer: The Yellow M), John C. McGinley (Hamster & Gretal, Stan Against Evil) and Lauren Tsai (Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Game of Spy).
According to Mxdwn, Clive is a British actress that was cast to play Carell daughter. Clive is best known for her performance on the show Pure in 2019. Clive is represented by United Agents and Linden Entertainment and Jackoway Austen.
Mxdwn also mentioned that Connie Britton (Promising Young Woman, Friday Night Lights) also joins the cast of Rooster. Britton is the most well known out of the whole cast. Britton will play Carell’s x wife in the series.
