

The critically acclaimed and visually stunning historical epic, Shogun, returns for a second season, and details have been revealed by FX. It has been praised for its captivating storytelling and detailed accurate portrayal of its feudal Japan setting. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the series follows the journey of John Blackthorne, played by Cosmo Davis (Peaky Blinders, Nocturnal) and Yoshii Toranaga, played by Hiroyuki Sanada (Mortal Kombat, 47 Ronin),who cross paths with one another and get caught in the middle of power struggles between a rival warlord.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, season one ended with Toranga revealing his grand ambition to become the shogun, and John accepting his new life in Japan after the death of Mirako, played by Anna Sawai (Monarch:Legacy of Monsters, Ninja Assassin).The new season, set 10 years after the events of season one, will surely showcase new characters and obstacles that the duo will have to overcome in order to keep the peace. The production setting for the forthcoming season will be the same as the previous season, which was spread over Vancouver.
According to The Hollywood Reporter,the historical series made a major achievement at last year’s Emmys with an impressive 18 wins in categories such as outstanding drama and best leading role. Production for the highly anticipated season is slated to begin in early 2026. While specific plot details remain tightly guarded, speculation is rife about the direction the narrative will take. The series will be produced and written by the series original co-creators, Rachel Kondo (Morgenmagazin) and Justin Marks (Top Gun:Maverick).
According to The Hollywood Reporter, this isn’t the only season that FX is working on, as the series has been renewed for a second and third season.
While fans await on news surrounding the release and plot of the second season, the entire first season of Shogun is available to stream on Hulu.
