According to the official Roku website, both Roku, Inc. and Warner Bros. Discovery have come together for a groundbreaking deal to bring Warner Bros. Discovery branded FAST channels to the Roku Channel. The deal features popular hit series such as Westworld, The Bachelor, Cake Boss, Say Yes to the Dress, F-Boy Island, and more, with the programs debuting on the Roku Channel in spring of 2023.
For those not in the know, FAST stands for “free ad-supported streaming TV,” some notable examples of which include streaming platforms such as Peacock, Pluto TV, IMDb TV, Samsung TV+, Xumo, and the Roku Channel. FAST channels are similar to traditional, cable television in that the viewer watches a program that is broadcast on a particular channel at a particular time, but differs with the extended capability of allowing viewers to stream over inter-connected devices at the same time.
As written by Roku, this exciting new deal will bring in over 2000 hours of on-demand library programming to the Roku Channel and hundreds of movies and television programs operating under Warner Bros. Discovery’s high-profile banner. Channels including HBO, HBO Max, Discovery Channel, Warner Bros. Pictures, Warner Bros. Television, HGTV, TLC, Food Network, and more will soon be available to stream for free on the Roku Channel.
“As FAST continues to explode in popularity amongst cord-cutters, we’re seeing content players increasingly shift their focus towards capturing this audience, by bringing some of their best stuff to FAST. The rapid expansion of premium content on FAST is a win for both the viewer and content owner, as well as advertisers looking to reach these audiences through well-known programming,” said Rob Holmes, Vice President of Programming at Roku. “We’re delighted to be one of Warner Bros. Discovery’s inaugural FAST partners, and we look forward to introducing its incredible TV series, films, and entertainment brands to a whole new audience on The Roku Channel.”
