The Pitt is coming back for a second season, and HBO just dropped the first scene of the Emmy-winning medical drama. Watch the clip below.
The scene shows Dr. Michael Robinvatch, played by Noah Wyle (ER, A Few Good Men), crossing the Algenhany River whilst performing what may be a doctor’s worst nightmare, riding a motorcycle without a helmet. Eventually, he arrives at the hospital with a helmet conspicuously strapped to his backpack. Crossing through the metal detector at the entrance, he sees numerous people lined up for triage. The premiere appears to be set on July 4th, which could explain the mass of people clamoring to get treated. Holidays are notoriously difficult within the medical industry, particularly those that often involve alcohol consumption.
The first season of Pitt received widespread critical acclaim and commercial success largely due to its gritty and realistic portrayal of the medical field. The series dominated this past Emmys, earning 13 nominations and five wins. Wyle took home one of the most prestigious awards of the night for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series. Wyle, in homage to off-screen medical workers, wore a tuxedo entirely made of scrubs on the red carpet.
Wyle rose to prominence in one of the foundational medical dramas of the nineties, ER. According to mxdwn, HBO boss Casey Bloys recently welcomed his ER costar George Clooney to join the series as a guest star, although he went on to state that it’s entirely speculative. Clooney could offer a welcome bit of nostalgia and a commanding screen presence. Clooney had previously praised the series and Wyle’s performance.
He stated, “What a beautiful show it is, and what a great success it has been,” while adding, “What a fun thing to have — Wyle kind of continuing on a tradition.”
According to Mashable, the series is set to release on January 8th, 2026. Unlike many prestige television series, The Pitt still premieres on cable with a weekly release on TNT.
