Coming off his successful turn as Dr. Jack Startz, Liberace’s plastic surgeon, in HBO’s Behind the Candelabra, Rob Lowe has signed on to another historical feature. Lowe has been cast as President John F. Kennedy in an upcoming NatGeo production that tells the story of Kennedy’s last years, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Killing Kennedy is the second in a book trilogy written by Bill O’Reilly and Martin Dugard. The first, Killing Lincoln, was adapted into a successful NatGeo movie earlier this year, while an adaptation of the third, Killing Jesus, is expected to follow Kennedy.
Other new members of the cast include Ginnifer Goodwin (Once Upon a Time) as First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy and Michelle Trachtenberg (Gossip Girl) as Lee Harvey Oswald’s wife, Marina. Nelson McCormick will direct the two-hour film.
Production is slated to begin in June. Killing Kennedy will premiere on NatGeo in late 2013 to coincide with the fiftieth anniversary of JFK’s death.
