‘Riverdale’ Season 2 Trailer Teases Archie’s Dark Side

The last time viewers saw Archie and the gang in Riverdale, story lines were coming to a close and cliffhangers were beginning to develop. Season 1 of Ehe CW series concluded with Archie (KJ Apa) and Veronica (Camila Mendes) making their relationship official, while Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) relationship hit a bump in the road when Jughead became an honorary member the Southside Serpents. The biggest cliffhanger of all, though, was when Archie’s father, Fred Andrews (Luke Perry), was shot by an unknown burglar while robbing Pop’s.

Riverdale is currently in production for the upcoming sophomore season. The cast and executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa took a break from filming in Vancouver to attend Comic-Con in San Diego where a blooper reel from Season 1 and the first trailer for Season 2 was released. Check out the full video below.

The video not only highlights the clear silliness that takes place behind-the-scenes of the series, but also previews what the cast referred to as “Dark Archie” during their panel, according to Deadline. “There’s a switch that goes off, and I think it’s a different side of Archie we haven’t seen yet,” revealed Apa.

The trailer first shows Archie carrying Fred into the hospital and he is quickly accompanied by his friends. It is clear that Archie will make it his mission to find out who shot his father. The trailer then shows Pop Tate (Alvin Sanders) as he says, “It was like the angel of death had come to Riverdale.” The final big reveal in the trailer shows Cheryl (Madelaine Petsch) as she stands over her bandaged mother’s bedside and says, “Things are going to be different now, Mommy. You’ll see.”

While Fred’s fate is currently on the minds of most fans, Aguirre-Sacasa promised, “By the end of the first episode, we will know who shot Fred.” Another spoiler for the upcoming season revealed at the panel is that Veronica’s ex-boyfriend from New York will appear in Riverdale, which will bring out a much darker side of Veronica. Reinhart also teased what her character is up to in the new season.” Last season we saw some dark Betty but this season it’s more like tortured soul Betty,” she said.

As for Bughead fans, Sprouse told TVLine that “a huge mess of trouble” will be in store for the couple. Sprouse elaborated by stating that Jughead’s new membership with the Southside Serpents will force change in his life, including his relationship with Betty.

Season 2 of Riverdale will premiere on Wednesday, October 11 at 8/7c on The CW.
