Ridley Scott is producing a new streaming series for Quibi called CURS_R. Ridley Scott, the director of Alien, Bladerunner, and Gladiator, is creating a new series for Jeffery Katzenberg’s streaming company Quibi.
CURS_R is about a student who is trying to obtain one hundred thousand dollars in prize money for playing an old video arcade game from the 1980’s. The producers said that after a while “the game curses her reality with terrifying choices and reality-warping challenges. After a series of unexpectedly terrifying moments, she soon realizes she’s no longer playing for the money, but for her own life as the game locks her into an inescapable cycle of mind-bending horror.”
The series is written by Simon Allen who just made a reboot of Das Boot. Toby Meakins, who also made a series of horror short films with Simon, is going to direct. The series is also going to be produced by Scott Free and Stigma Films. Toby Meakins and Simon Allen also have a Vimeo account called CURS>R which has all of their award winning horror short films. Matthew James Wilkins, who also produced last summer’s Universal movie Yesterday, is also going to be a producer on the new CURS_R series.
“With all of the many platforms on which one can now show content, including the groundbreaking new format at Quibi, this is an extraordinary time to be a filmmaker. We are very much looking forward to working with Jeffrey Katzenberg and his Quibi team, as well as with these very talented filmmakers, Toby and Simon, to create a series that promises to break new boundaries in the horror genre,” said Scott.
Quibi, which is short for “Quick Bites” is going online on April 6th, 2020. It already has more than a billion dollars from its investors. Guillermo del Toro, Sam Raimi, Steven Spielberg, Paul Feig, and Laurence Fishburne are creating content for the platform.
