Ricky Martin To Star In Apple TV+ Comedy ‘Mrs. American Pie’

Actor and singer, Ricky Martin (The Assassination Of Gianni Versace), is set to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ period comedy, Mrs. American Pie, according to Deadline. Martin will play Robert, the male lead of the show.

Joining Martin in the upcoming comedy series will be Kristin Wiig (The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty), Allison Janney (Masters Of Sex), and Laura Dern (Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi), according to Deadline. Dern will also be serving as an executive producer for the series.

Wiig will play Maxine Simmons, who is described as a woman who is attempting to secure her seat at the Palm Beach high society, according to Deadline.

According to Deadline, Martin has been seeking larger roles as of late in an effort to expand his acting career. His most recent acting role came in the Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story)-produced FX drama, The Assassination Of Gianni Versace, which is part of the American Crime Story anthology. Martin played Antonio D’Amico. He has also appeared in episodes of General Hospital during the mid-1990s, playing Miguel Morez. Another one of his notable roles was guest starring in an episode of Glee as David Martinez, a spanish teacher.

will be a 10-part period comedy that is based on the novel by Juliet McDaniel, titled Mr. & Mrs. American Pie, according to Deadline. Currently, the book is McDaniel’s only published novel. She will serve as a producer for the show. McDaniel’s other work in TV is writing for the comedy series, Qwerty. 

Mrs. American Pie is being developed by Dern and her producing partner Jayme Lemons (If Anything Happens, I Love You) via their Jaywalker Pictures banner. Abe Sylvia (The Eyes Of Tammy Faye) will write, exec produce and serve as showrunner for the series, per Deadline.

A production start date has not yet been announced.
