It has been a big week for latin superstar Ricky Martin. On Wednesday, he began his residency at the Monte Carlo’s Park Theater in Las Vegas. And yesterday, it was announced that Martin will portray Gianni Versace’s longtime partner Antonio D’Amico in FX’s upcoming American Crime Story: Versace.
The cast of the third seasons of the limited series is certainly filling out, as Penelope Cruz announced a few weeks ago that she would be playing Donatella Versace, sister of Gianni. Edgar Ramirez will play Gianni Versace, while Glee’s Darren Criss will play Andrew Cunanan, the murderer. Set in Miami in 1997, the series will follow the events leading up to and following the murder of the acclaimed fashion design mogul. There will be 10 episodes in the series which are expected to premiere in 2018.
Martin’s character of Italian model/designer Antonio D’Amico was working for Versace in their sports line at the time of the murder. D’Amico met Versace in 1982, and always had an estranged relationship with the other members of the Versace family, especially after Gianni’s death, when according to Gianni’s will, was supposed to receive a substantial pension, but was pushed out by the family. Martin previously guest starred on an episode of Glee, so American Crime Story creator Ryan Murphy was familiar with his talent after working with him.
But before American Crime Story: Versace, look for the second season American Crime Story: Katrina. The second season is set to cover Hurricane Katrina, and star Annette Bening and Matthew Broderick, and rumored to feature a few stars from the crucially-acclaimed first season The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, such as Sarah Paulson, John Travolta, Courtney B. Vance, and Cuba Gooding Jr.
Martin is a Grammy-winning artist who has sold over 70 million albums. His most famous song is ‘Livin’ la Vida Loca’, which has sold over 8 million copies, making it one of the best selling singles of all time. He was featured as a coach on The Voice in Mexico and Australia from 2013-2015. Back in 1994, he starred on the soap opera General Hospital, where he played Miguel Morez, a Puerto Rican singer.
Look for Martin this year in Las Vegas at his residency at Monte Carlo’s Park Theater. The dates will be April 11, 14, 15, June 23, 24, 27, 29, July 1, 2, September 12, 15,16,19,22, and 23.
