Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland is teaming up with Hulu for the production of yet another animated series entitled Koala Man, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Roiland will serve as an executive producer of the series.
The family comedy, from creator Michael Cusack (YOLO: Crystal Fantasy), follows the main character, voiced by Cusack, as he takes on a secret identity known as Koala Man – an Australian hero with no powers, but a passion of ending crime and restoring safety within his community. The streaming service as pickup up Koala Man for eight episodes, with Benji Samit (The Addams Family 2) and Dan Hernandez (Detective Pikachu) serving as showrunners. Roiland and Cusack will reunite on this project after Cusack wrote and directed Roilands, 2018 Rick and Morty April Fool’s special entitled Bushworld Adventures.
Recently, Hulu has made a push towards adult animation, with the production of Roiland’s Solar Opposites, whose second season will debut Friday, Crossing Swords, and the upcoming Marvel series entitled MODOK and Hit Monkey. Meanwhile, the series is already home to long-running Fox animated series such as Family Guy, Bob’s Burgers, and King of the Hill, alongside Futurama and American Dad.
Cusack, Samit, Hernandez, and Roiland will serve as executive producers on Koala Man. Further names attached to the series or potential release dates have not yet been announced.
