Based on a press release from Adult Swim, Rick and Morty are set to premiere a horror short titled Summer’s Sleepover. The horror short will release on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at 12 am Eastern.
Rick and Morty trippy horror short is about an unexpected guest who livens up Summer’s sleepover party. This Halloween special will be done by Claymation filmmaker Lee Hardcastle (The ABCs of Death, Snolly in Shrek’s Creppy Swamp). The special has its global premiere on HBO Max on the 30th, followed by being made available on Adult Swim’s YouTube the next day.
Hardcastle has created a plethora of Rick and Morty shorts focusing on spoofing horror movies. Those titles include The Thing, The Fly, Halloween, Poltergeist, Re-Animator, and Gremlins. Hardcastle also took jabs at several other Hollywood blockbusters that include Honey, I Shrunk The Kids, Blade Runner, E.T., The Matrix, and many more. There has yet to be an official Halloween special of the main series of Rick and Morty, according to ComicBook, but this will come as a welcoming surprise to the audience who want to enjoy the fresh Claymation take on the major characters of the Adult Swim series.
Rick and Morty is an Emmy award-winning half-hour animated popular comedy series on Adult Swim that stars Chris Parnell (21 Jump Street, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy), Spencer Grammer (As the World Turns, Random Tropical Paradise), Justin Roiland (Solar Opposites, Adventure Time), and Sarah Chalke (Scrubs, Roseanne). Created by Dan Harmon (Community, Great Minds with Dan Harmon) and Roiland, the animated series is about a psychotic intellect scientist (Rick Sanchez) who lugs his intrinsically feeble grandson (Morty) on stupidly perilous escapades across the universe.
Rick and Morty was the number one comedy across all U.S. cable in 2017, 2019, and 2021 respectively. Rick and Morty has also ranked as one of the top series both domestically and globally for HBO Max. In addition, the animated series has been watched over ten billion times globally, across linear, digital, and streaming.
In addition to the Halloween special airing on October 30, 2022, new episodes of the animated series will be returning to Adult Swim on Sunday, November 20, 2022.
