‘Rick and Morty’ Season Seven Opening Credits Release Sparks Conversation Surrounding Justin Roiland Recast

Rick and Morty’s seventh season’s opening credits have sparked conversation surrounding the replacement of co-creator Justin Roiland’s voice as Rick after being fired. Audiences already know that the voices will be re-cast with those who will sound similar to the original voices, but there is no concrete knowledge of who will be voicing the lead mad scientist.

The seventh season of Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty is set to debut on October 15, following the firing of Roiland, the show’s co-creator and lead voice actor. Roiland was fired after felony domestic battery charges, along with allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior with minors. The charges of felony domestic battery have been dismissed, and Roiland denies the allegations surrounding sexual harassment and behavior with minors. Since the announcement of his firing, fans have been very interested in seeing who will replace the iconic voice of Rick in the hit TV series and the opening credits, released by Adult Swim on Monday, are creating a lot of talk in regard to the new voice.

The opening credits show the usual high-energy and imaginative hijinks of Rick and Morty, with our main characters weaving in and out of intergalactic peril. While the credits show audiences that there is a lot of fun about to be had with the newest season, the comments on the video are filled solely with speculation as to how they are going to handle the voice change.

Some fans are speculating that the new voices are being kept a secret for publicity reasons, “They’re definitely keeping the new voices hush hush until the last second. It’s a way to renew interest and build up a higher viewership for the premiere. Definitely a great way to capitalize off of the Roiland disaster,” writes one user.  Another user is using their imagination, writing “I bet the gag is gonna be they make them sound radically different, then the actual Rick and Morty step out and murder them, sounding like the actual ones.”

Rick and Morty is a very wacky cartoon where anything can happen, so using an interesting way to change their voices would not be surprising for the show’s unpredictable nature. The seventh season premieres on October 7th, 2023 on Adult Swim, watch the newly released opening credits below!
