Richard Herd, the revered actor who is known for his role as Mr. Wilhelm on Seinfeld and appeared in notable films such as All the President’s Men and Get Out, died yesterday, as reported by Deadline. The 87 year-old passed away of cancer-related complications at his home in Los Angeles which was announced by his wife, actress Patricia Crowder Herd.
Herd appeared in a myriad of television series and films, playing supporting, recurring and occasional guest roles. He took on roles in T.J. Hooker, NBC miniseries V and its sequel, Dallas, ER, numerous Star Trek projects, The O.C., NYPD Blue, Shameless and many more. He appeared most notably on Seinfeld where he appeared in 11 episodes as Mr. Wilhelm, George Costanza’s demanding supervisor.
He moved on to the big screen, his extensive film credits including Get Out (2017), Dog Days of Summer (2007), The Survivor (1998), Private Benjamin (1980), The China Syndrome (1979), All the President’s Men (1976) and Hercules in New York (1969).
Spokesperson for the Herd family Alicia Ruskin confirmed the news to USA TODAY saying, “I can confirm that Richard passed away yesterday morning at age 87 of cancer at his home in Los Angeles in the company of his family. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Patricia, daughter Erica, son Rick and step-daughter Alicia.”
