As per any Valentine’s Day episode of television, the holiday brings out the worst in the couples of Nobody Wants This. Instead of it being an ultra-romantic day, the events of the episode led to relationship problems, disagreements, and a lot of comedy.
Be warned: spoilers ahead.
The episode opens with Morgan and Joanne’s podcast, where they plan their annual Valentine’s Day drunk lunch. During the listener question portion of the podcast, Noah’s ex-girlfriend, Melanie, calls in and tells Joanne that Noah is a love-bomber and left her blindsided when they broke up. This scares Joanne and becomes the central conflict of this episode.
Joanne confronts Noah and asks him about Melanie. To make Joanne feel better, she asks Noah to speak to his other ex-girlfriend, Rebecca, and see if Rebecca felt blindsided also. Rebecca and Noah meet up, and Rebecca makes it clear that Noah completely surprised her with the breakup. However, Noah still doesn’t seem to think he did anything wrong.
Dr. Andy surprises Morgan with his own love-bomby Valentine’s Day celebration, waking her up to her favorite song and asking her to move in with him. Morgan doesn’t know what to say because the relationship is so new. Noah plans a pasta-making lunch for him and Joanne, which interferes with the annual drunk lunch, but Noah says they can invite Dr. Andy and Morgan as well. The two exchange gifts. Joanne gives Noah a giant Kazaam poster he’s wanted forever, but no card to go with it. Noah gives Joanne a heartfelt card and a gold necklace. A necklace that just so happens to be the same one he got for Rebecca. This freaks Joanne out, rightfully so.

Sasha and Esther are still debating whether or not to have another kid when Noah walks in to wish Esther a happy Valentine’s Day and borrow a bubble machine for some secret surprise for Joanne. Noah tells Sasha that this “always works”, playing into the idea that Noah is very romantic, but not very personal with his Valentine’s Day gifts.
At the pasta-making course, Morgan and Noah butt heads because Noah interrupted the tradition of drunk lunch. Joanne and Morgan talk aside. Morgan tells Joanne that Dr. Andy asked her to move in with him. Joanne does her best to stay supportive, but its clear Morgan needs someone to say to her that it’s ok to take things slow.
Esther and Sasha attend a romantic dance class, where Sasha performs a surprise dance for Esther, despite having said in previous episodes that he was too tall to learn to dance. Sasha loves this show of affection. After the dance class, Esther and Sasha return home. Morgan calls Sasha, and despite his pleas, Esther answers. Morgan asks to talk to Sasha for a second. Esther allows it, but only for two minutes. Morgan asks Sasha whether it’s crazy to move in with Dr. Andy, and Sasha tells her that it’s ok to take things slow.

Dr. Andy and Morgan go on a walk where Morgan tries to tell him that she doesn’t want to move in with him, but instead, he surprises her with her own cross-breed of orchid. Morgan gives in and decides to move in with Dr. Andy.
Now we see what the bubble machine was for, as Noah brings Joanne into a bubble bath in 85-degree weather. It’s uncomfortable and hot, and Joanne is still wondering whether he does this for every girlfriend he’s had or just for her. After the bath, Noah tells Joanne that he planned a night-hike for the two of them, but Joanne asks to stay in, saying that it was the worst Valentine’s day she’s ever had– ouch! Joanne and Noah have a heart-to-heart, with Noah apologizing for the re-gift and saying that their relationship is special because he’s never been able to be honest with his ex-girlfriends like he can with Joanne. Noah asks Joanne what she would like to do for the end of Valentine’s Day, and Joanne requests to watch Love is Blind alone. Noah obliges. Before the episode is over, Joanne turns off the episode and finds Noah. She wrote him a handwritten card, just as he had written her. The episode ends with Noah and Joanne making out on the couch.
This episode felt like a classic holiday special, with lots of character development and stakes. The episode made the audience lose a lot of sympathy for Noah Roklov and his usual romantic antics. We saw a darker side of his character, one that’s more manipulative. As soon as we found out the necklace wasn’t an original gift, the rest of the holiday he planned for Joanne felt fake and gross. Joanne does a great job supporting Morgan, a promise she made to herself last episode, but in this case, Morgan was looking for someone to advise her against Dr. Andy. Joanne hasn’t had a win in a couple of episodes; she’s due for a good turn as we approach the season’s midpoint.
