Regular Show creator J. G. Quintel has just set the release of his adult animated sitcom, Close Enough on HBO Max. According to Animation Magazine, the show was initially meant to air on TBS in 2017 but was quietly disregarded until Quintel’s announcement in 2019 regarding its eventual release to HBO Max. Close Enough features the voices of Jason Mantzoukas (Big Mouth) and J. G. Quintel himself while revolving around the life of a married couple, their toddler, and their divorced friends that live with them in an LA apartment.
Regular Show, Quintel’s most well-known creation, ran for 4 seasons from 2009-2017. The show documented the lives of Mordecai, a blue jay, voiced by Quintel, and Rigby, a raccoon, voiced by William Salyers (Deep). The friends work alongside odd characters such as High-Five Ghost, also voiced by Quintel, and Skips, voiced by Mark Hamill (Star Wars), as they navigate their boring jobs in their city’s park and are somehow often caught in supernatural battles after neglecting their work. This series usually walked the line between kid-friendly and adult. In comparison, Close Enough will be for more mature audiences. Regular Show and some of Quintel’s other works have been aired on Cartoon Network; Close Enough will be his first adult cartoon that will be released exclusively to HBO’s streaming service, via Animation Magazine.
Despite originally being announced in 2017 and its release to HBO Max being announced two years later, Quintel’s long awaited sitcom will finally be released on July 9th, 2020. A sneak peak preview of the show can be watched below.
