E! announced today that their new hour-long reality series Second Wives Club (previously titled Famously Married) will premiere on Thursday, May 4 at 9 PM. The title Second Wives Club is intriguing; is there a club of second wives somewhere that gets together to plot against their husbands or exes?
However these are not your average second, third, or fourth wives: they are essentially trophy wives. Second Wives Club is a reality that follows six of the most privileged and opulently adorned Hollywood women you can imagine. The clubhouse is located squarely in the lap of luxury: large mansions, expensive cars, and time to kill. If you’ve never worn your best pearls to the ballet or the yacht, your membership in the Second Wives Club will likely be revoked.
Instead of following the daily lives of adventurers, political leaders, or even business owners; Second Wives Club follows women who simply having powerful and wealthy husbands or fiancés. It is unclear what sort of drama these women will encounter, or more likely create, but it looks like viewers will be watching a lot of women buy a lot of expensive things.
But some drama has been stirred up already, with Beverly Hills Plastic Surgeon Michael Obeng filing a lawsuit last month in an attempt to block the airing of the show, according to Variety. The suit claims that while Obeng had been led to believe the show would highlight his and Veronika Obeng happy marriage, he was staged in “artificial situations” and forced to “engage in conflicts that were often fraudulent and deceptive,” per Variety‘s report on the suit. But that’s “reality” TV for you. Obeng argued that the show forced him to display a false character which could be damaging to his business. The show must go on however, so either Obeng is to settle with the network by arbitration, or he and his children will be taken out in editing as he requested.
Starring on perhaps the most ridiculous reality show since Keeping Up with the Kardashians, which is impressively somehow in its thirteenth season, will be Shiva Safai, Katie Cazorla, Veronika Obeng, Shawna Craig, Tania Mehra and Morisa Surray, according to E! news. However, there are no guarantees that all six of these fianceés and wives will still be in the Second Wives Club at the end of the series.
Second Wives Club has planned eight documentary-style hour long episodes, the first of which will premiere May 4 at 9|8c PM.
