“Re-Boot Goofin”: Quibi Picks Up ‘Reno 911!’ Revival

Almost ten years after Reno 911!’s cancellation, the creators of the Comedy Central cult favorite have announced that they will be bringing the show back on Quibi. The revival will join Quibi’s current lineup of over 50 scripted and unscripted shows coming in 2020.

Reno 911! was a mockumentary comedy series that ran from 2003 to 2009 on Comedy Central that followed the fictional antics of the police force of Reno, Nevada. The show was reasonably well-received in its time, currently holding an 87% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The show also  gathered some attention on the internet with it’s “new boot goofin” scene, which became somewhat of an internet meme (you can watch the full scene below).

The show starred creators Robert Ben Garant, Kerri Kenney-Silver and Thomas Lennon, who have all announced that they will be returning to both write and star in the Quibi revival. It has not been announced whether any of the other original cast will be rejoining the series.

In regards to the show’s revival on the new platform, Lennon stated that “”Quibi’s short format seems custom made for our show.” He also expressed his excitement to continue working on the show, saying, “Reno 911 holds a special place in our hearts, and it will be a delight to get the original cast back together for ‘re-boot goofin.’ Hopefully Nick Swardson can still roller skate.”

“We are very excited to partner with Ben, Kerri and Tom, three of the most gifted multi-hyphenates in comedy, to bring more of their iconic series Reno 911 to the world,” added Sarah Babineau and Jonas Larsen, Comedy Central’s co-heads of original content. “Fans demanded this for a long time, and Comedy Central Productions and Quibi are thrilled to help answer that kind of 911 call.”

The Reno 911! Revival comes from Comedy Central productions, and will be executive produced by Peter Principato, Danny DeVito, Michael Shamberg and Stacey Shere. This is Comedy Central’s second Quibi show to be announced, alongside an unscripted comedy travel series from The Daily Show’s Trevor Noah. Quibi is set to launch in April of 2020, and a subscription to the service will cost $5 per month with advertisements or $8 per month for the premium ad-free service.
