eOne fast-tracks their plans for a new ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ TV universe as they tap on their new creative lead. According to Deadline, filmmaker Rawson Marshall Thurber (Red Notice, We’re the Millers) will spearhead the new series based on the Hasbro role-playing game.
Thurber will write and direct the pilot and executive produce the series as a whole. The flagship series is expected to start a universe of other projects under the D&D franchise.
Dungeons & Dragons has been a “big focus” for eOne since the company’s acquisition back in April 2021, according to Deadline. D&D is not the only franchise that Hasbro hopes to build, as the company plans to expand Monopoly and the recently-acquired Power Rangers franchise, which will have its cinematic universe on Netflix.
Thurber is recently known for his work on Red Notice, starring Ryan Reynolds (Free Guy, Green Lantern), Dwayne Johnson (Jumanji, Black Adam), and Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman, Death on the Nile). He is expected to return for two sequels in the works at Netflix.
The D&D television universe will also complement the upcoming film by eOne and Paramount, which recently wrapped production.
