Curtis Jackson, also known as 50 Cent, will be executive producing a drama for the Starz network. The drama is reportedly titled Power and was created by Courtney Kemp Agboh, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The original series will center around a New York City nightclub owner named James “Ghost” St. Patrick. He has dreams of turning the club into a “Fortune 500 business,” as the Hollywood Reporter posted. As with many wealthy nightclub owners in fictional stories, St. Patrick doubles as a drug kingpin. Power will highlight the challenges St. Patrick faces while separating his criminal work from professional, as well as his family life.
The new series seems to hold a special place in Jackson’s heart, as he stated, “This is a passion project for me, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have found a home with Starz. I look forward to working with this incredibly talented team on making Power a hit show.”
Although he may be best known as a rapper, Jackson is no stranger to show business. He has acted in many movies and television shows, where he has played himself several times. He famously lost over 50 pounds to portray a cancer patient for the movie “Things Fall Apart,” as reported by the Huffington Post. Jackson also has some experience producing, as stated on IMDB.
CEO of Starz, Chris Albrecht commented on Jackson’s abilities, saying, “Curtis has a unique and specific vision for the series, lending it an authenticity and voice rarely seen.”
The first season of Power will contain eight hour-long episodes and will begin filming in late 2013, as reported by the Urban Daily.
