Hulu’s critically-acclaimed drama comedy series, Ramy, is finally set to return next month. Deadline reports the long-delayed third season will bow Friday, September 30 for a 10-episdoe run. The second season of the show premiered two years ago on May 29th.
Starring series creator and writer, Ramy Youssef (See Dad Run), Ramy is the semi-autobiographical tale of Ramy Hassan, a bewildered millennial Egyptian-American existing with his family in their New Jersey neighborhood. Dedicated to recommitting to his Islamic faith in season two, Ramy was on the road to marriage after falling for the daughter of his local mosque’s shiek. He ultimately suffered cold feet after a traumatic incident at the mosque and a peculiar love affair with a distant relative. Now, the third season will see Ramy on the verge of abandoning religion altogether, as he settles to work at his uncle’s diamond business.
According to Deadline, the series also stars Hiam Abbass (Succession), Mohammaed Amer (Mo), May Calamawy (Moon Kinght), Dave Merheje (Mr. D), Laith Nakli (Ms. Marvel), Amr Waked (Lucy), and Steve Way (Act of God). Last season featured Mahersala Ali (Ture Detective), MaameYaa Boaf (Bluff City Law), and a hilarious appearance from former adult film actress, Mia Kalifa.
To date, Ramy has been nominated for a number of awards including three Critic’s Choice awards, three Emmy awards, and two Golden Globes. Youseff won a Globe for Best Actor in a Television Series, Musical or Comedy in 2019. The series has also won a Peabody and an SXSW Film Festival award.
Youssef serves as director and executive producer along with co-creators Ryan Welch ( On the Count of Three) and Ari Katcher (The Carmichael Show), according to Deadline. Additonal executive producers include the series studio, A24, Christopher Storer (Bo Burnham: what.), Adel Kamal (Ramy), Amir Sulaiman (Def Poetry Jam), Tyson Bidner (A Serious Man), Jerrod Carmichael (Rothaniel), and Kate Thulin (Green Eggs and Ham).
