Since Queen Elizabeth II’s death earlier this month, social media has buzzed with an untrue rumor. According to Variety, Queen Elizabeth’s death was not predicted on an episode of The Simpsons. There have been memes and videos going viral on TikTok and other social media platforms claiming an episode that showed a coffin belonging to the Queen had her death year listed as 2022.
According to Variety, a Tik Tok video with over 16 million views had a caption that said, “The Simpsons have done it again.” The caption referred to a video posted by user @Moviesandmemes46790. The video clip depicts a scene from episode four of season 15 called “The Regina Monologues” in which Homer crashes into the Queen’s carriage and knocks it over while the Simpson family is vacationing in London. At the end of the clip, the camera zooms in on a piece of paper that reads 8.9.2022 — the actual date of Queen Elizabeth’s death.
After much talk about The Queen’s assumed death on The Simpsons, people began talking about former President Donald Trump’s death on a different episode of the show. According to Variety, a similar image of Trump in a coffin falsely depicted him succumbing to COVID-19 in 2020 during the pandemic and the Black Lives Matter movement.
Queen Elizabeth II had appeared in six episodes of The Simpsons. She passed away Sept. 8, 2022 and her funeral was held on Sept. 19, 2022.
