After a few months of filming, the hawk is returning to his nest. According to Comic Book, Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) announced via Instagram that filming on the upcoming Hawkeye series has wrapped this week. The series will be Clint Barton’s first solo project throughout the character’s time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Renner, who has played Clint Barton’s Hawkeye since 2011 when he cameoed in Thor, had some congratulatory words of praise to share about those helping bring his character back to the MCU. According to Comic Book, the actor thanked everyone apart of Hawkeye‘s cast and crew for their dedicated work on the series.
Hawkeye will explore Barton’s life when he’s not avenging and will introduce a fan favorite character, Kate Bishop, to the MCU. Bishop, who will be played by Hailee Steinfeld (Dickinson), is rumored to be taking up the mantle of Hawkeye, according to Comic Book. The series will also introduce the character of Maya Lopez (played by newcomer Alaqua Cox), who is better known as the deaf superhero Echo, to the on-screen Marvel narrative. Fans are additionally excited for the series to feature Florence Pugh’s (Little Women) yet-to-be-seen Yelena Belova from the upcoming Black Widow film.
When speaking about the future of the series and the speculations that Kate Bishop’s character will become the new Hawkeye, MCU producer Trinh Tran (executive producer, Avengers: Endgame) said “They’re both Hawkeyes in a way, right? So you want to make sure… I’m always interested in introducing new characters. And now we have a fascinating young female who is very interested in this role. So you’re going to see a balance of both.” (Comic Book)
While there is no official release date for the series, it is speculated based on prior announcements by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige (executive producer, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier) that the series will be released sometime in fall of 2021.
