Via his personal Instagram, Seth MacFarlane (Family Guy, American Dad!) shared with the world that the Ted prequel series has completed its filming. MacFarlane did not disclose the show’s debut date, but it was confirmed that the Ted series will premiere on Peacock and the show will consist of a total of ten episodes, according to Screen Rant.
According to Collider, this spinoff series is a 1990s-based prequel spun off the two preceding films predating the show. The cast of the show will be depicting the younger versions of the original characters we know and love. Max Burkholder (The Purge, Daddy Day Care) will be portraying the role of John Bennett, the protagonist of both films who was originally portrayed by Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, Boogie Nights). The roles of Bennett’s parents will be portrayed by Alanna Ubach (Coco, Euphoria) and Scott Grimes (American Dad!, Robin Hood) with MacFarlane as the voice of Ted. Giorgia Whigham (The Punisher, Into the Dark) will also be included in the cast.
As we all should know by now, Ted follows a foul-mouthed, marijuana-smoking teddy bear who was brought to life by the magic of a little boy’s wish, according to Bleeding Cool. In the television series, Burkholder’s John Bennett is a stand-up and likable teen who is in his awkward phase. With assistance from his best friend, Ted, John tries his best to voyage through his adolescent years. The show is set in 1993 after the opening sequence of the first film and promises to follow the early life of the teddy bear with sentience.
MacFarlane is set to write, direct, co-showrun, and executive produce the show alongside fellow showrunners, writers, and executive producers Brad Walsh (Modern Family, King of the Hill) and Paul Corrigan (King of the Hill, Modern Family). The television series also derives from MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door and is set to be executive produced by President Erica Huggins (Son of the Mask, The Spy Who Dumped Me). Jason Clark (Zero Dark Thirty, Terminator Genisys) and Alana Kleiman (Books of Blood, The Orville) will serve as additional executive producers with UCP (a division of Universal Studio Group) and MRC Television producing, according to Bleeding Cool.
