A fresh chapter in the Prison Break saga is officially underway as Hulu preps a new reboot set in the same universe as the original Fox series. According to an article via TVLine, Margo Martindale (Justified, The Americans) is the latest to join the cast.
A three-time Emmy winner, TVLine lists Martindale as set to guest-star as Jessica Strand, the tough-as-nails warden of one of the most dangerous prisons in the country. She’s joined by veteran actors Donal Logue (Gotham, Sons of Anarchy), Lili Taylor (Outer Range, Six Feet Under), and Ray McKinnon (Mayans MC, Rectify), set to make guest appearances in the pilot.
Elgin James, known for helming Mayans MC, is writing the reboot and will serve as executive producer. He’s joined by Prison Break creator Paul Scheuring (A Man Apart) and returning producers Dawn Olmstead (Weird U), Marty Adelstein (Made of Honor), and Neal Moritz (The Fast and the Furious).
Unlike previous seasons, the Hulu reboot won’t bring back core stars like Wentworth Miller (Batwoman, ER) or Dominic Purcell (Batwoman, Supergirl). Instead, it centers on a new cast of inmates, guards, and political players navigating a high-security, co-ed prison.
According to TVLine, Drake Rodger (The Winchesters, Quiet in My Town) stars as Tommy, a hardened inmate who has already served a decade behind bars. Emily Browning (American Gods, The Affair) plays Cassidy, a former soldier-turned corrections officer entering the volatile prison system. Lukas Gage (YOU, Dead Boy Detectives) joins as Jackson, a privileged politician caught in a scandal during his first congressional campaign.
mxdwn previously reported the additions of Clayton Cardenas (Mayans MC, American Crime) as Ghost, a feared inmate with a violent edge, and JR Bourne (Teen Wolf, Mayans MC) as Junior, a psychologically unstable survivor of a previous prison break. Georgie Flores (Famous in Love, Rent: Live) will portray Andrea, a corrections trainee navigating the corrupt environment. Also featured are Myles Bullock (BMF, Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist) as Red, a gang leader with influence behind bars, and Priscilla Delgado (A League of Their Own, Julieta) as Cheyenne, a cunning inmate and Ghost’s girlfriend.
Fox’s original Prison Break ran from 2005 to 2009, with a TV movie and a short-lived 2017 revival. While that version focused on brothers breaking out of prison, the Hulu iteration aims to explore new themes through original characters and a more expansive narrative.
