Prime Video’s ‘Obsession’ Lands Dove Cameron and Avan Jogia as Its Stars

According to Deadline, actors Dove Cameron (Schmigadoon!, Descendants) and Avan Jogia (Zombieland: Double Tap, Shaft) were selected to play the leading roles, Ciara and Oliver respectively, in the thriller series Obsession. The show was greenlit for production towards the end of 2023 and is being produced by Amazon MGM Studios and Atomic Monster.

Deadline reports that Lisa Zwerling (ER, Flashforward) and Karyn Usher (Prison Break, Backstorm) are the writers and executive producers of the series, an adaptation of Catherine Ryan Howard’s bestselling novel 56 Days, published in 2021. James Wan (The Conjuring 2, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom), Michael Clear (M3GAN, Malignant) and Rob Hackett (Archive 81, Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles ) also serve as executive producers through their production company, Atomic Monster. Additionally, Danielle Bozzone will be responsible for managing and supervising the series on behalf of Atomic Monster. Sandrine Gros d’Aillon (The Bold Type, Helix) is another executive producer involved in the series, while Catherine Ryan Howard will serve as a co-executive producer. Finally, Alethea Jones (Mrs. Davis, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies) is the director of the first two episodes of Obsession

Obsession revolves around two characters, Oliver and Ciara, who meet unexpectedly in a supermarket and quickly become deeply infatuated with each other. The plot takes a dark turn when, 56 days after their meeting, homicide investigators discover a murdered body in Oliver’s apartment. The body has been deliberately decomposed, adding to the mystery. The central question of the series revolves around the identity of the killer. Both Oliver and Ciara are suspects in the murder, leading to speculation about who committed the crime. The show utilizes a narrative technique where the present-day investigation into the murder is interspersed with flashbacks depicting the tumultuous relationship between Oliver and Ciara. It also combines elements of a crime drama with themes of eroticism and psychological suspense, exploring the complexities of love, obsession and betrayal against the backdrop of a murder investigation.
