Prime Video Will Begin Showing Ads On Streaming: Here’s When

Prime Video is one of the many platforms that are joining the world of ad-supported streaming. On Tuesday, the streamer announced that they will be beginning to roll out ads on the service beginning in January, ComicBook reports.

In a statement for The Verge, the company shared an exclusive statement about this sudden decision. “We aim to have meaningfully fewer ads than linear TV and other streaming TV providers. No action is required from you, and there is no change to the current price of your Prime membership.”

Amazon previously decided to announce an ad-free upcharge, but its beginning date was unclear. The announcement shared on Tuesday was the first time that the company has said anything about it. When this platform adds advertising to its streaming service, it will become clear that the company has decided to follow Netflix and Disney+’s footsteps, into having a cheaper ad-supported service rather than continuing to spend more money in keeping the app without ads.

According to a statement shared by Netflix executive Amy Reinhard with Comicbook, the change to an add-supporting service has been welcomed by the platform’s users with much success.

“One year ago we launched Netflix‘s ad-supported plan. We have built an incredible foundation, focusing on areas advertisers told us matter most, all while delivering unmissable entertainment at an unbeatable value,” Reinhard explained last month. “As we continue to build and adapt our service, we’re excited about the progress we’ve made and that we now reach 15 million global monthly active users.”

She added via Comicbook, “Our goal isn’t just to offer the same products and tools the industry has come to expect — although we’ve made a lot of progress on that front over the last year. It’s to build something bigger and better than what exists today. We want to shape the future of advertising on Netflix and help marketers tap into the amazing fandom generated by our must-watch shows and movies.”

The users can have an ad-supporting platform, beginning on Tuesday.
