As announced in a press release from Prime Video, the streaming platform has announced an official premiere date of Friday, April 17, with the release of the first three episodes. Subsequently, three new episodes will be released the following Friday (April 24) and the final four episodes will be released on May 1.
Prime Video reported that the show would be co-hosted by WWE professional wrestler Mike “The Miz” Mizanin and television host Rocsi Diaz.
Similar to the format of the original series from 1989, via Prime Video, American Gladiators is a physical competition series which features Contenders – amateur female and male athletes – from across America go head to head in the Arena against 16 all-new and powerful American Gladiators. Classic show events like “Powerball,” “The Wall,” “Hang Tough,” and “Joust” are paired with high-impact newcomers such as “The Ring” and “Collision.” Through these tests of strategy, strength, and pure grit, only one man and one woman will rise to become American Gladiator Champions and conquer the Arena for a $100,000 grand prize.
The 1989 series gained notoriety for its high-paced atmosphere and challenging activities, engaging audiences and becoming so successful that other countries would later produce their own versions of the show.
Listed by Prime Video, American Gladiators is created and executive produced by Johnny C. Ferraro (Gladiators, American Gladiators (1989)). The series director is Ramy Romany (Making the Cut, The Contender). Serving as series showrunner and executive producer is Daniel Calin (Top Chef, Nailed It!) alongside Barry Poznick (The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Vanderpump Rules). Co-executive producers include Adam Cooper (So You Think You Can Dance, The Great American Baking Show), Sarah Happel Jackson (Deal or No Deal Island, Wipeout), and Susan Janis-Mashayenkhi (Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader, Hogan Knows Best). The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
As previously stated, via Prime Video, American Gladiators will first premiere on Friday, April 17th with the first three episodes of its first season. All episodes will exclusively debut on Prime Video worldwide in more than 240 countries and territories.
