Prime Video picked up The Legend of Vox Machina for season 3 and made its announcement at the New York Comic Con panel on October 6. Prime Video is renewing The Legend of Vox Machina before the second season even airs. According to Comicbook, the second season of The Legend of Vox Machina will premiere in January 2023.
The Legend of Vox Machina is an adaptation based on the characters and adventures attributed to Critical Role, web series in which a group of voice actors assemble together to play Dungeons and Dragons. The Legend of Vox Machina‘s first season tracked the Briarwood arc from Critical Role‘s first campaign. Critical Role also raised over $12 million to guarantee the making of a two-part pilot for The Legend of Vox Machina via Kickstarter, with Amazon Studios intervening to help finance a full first season while renewing the second season prior to the first season even airing.
The Legend of Vox Machina stars the Critical Role founders and cast members Laura Bailey (Spider-Man, The Last of Us: Part II), Taliesin Jaffe (Mr. Mom, Hellsing), Ashley Johnson (The Avengers, The Last of Us), Liam O’Brien (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Curse of the Golden Flower), Marisha Ray (Batgirl: Spoiled, CelebriD&D), Sam Riegel (Olympus Has Fallen, Blue Exorcist), Travis Willingham (Avengers Assemble, Sofia the First), and Matthew Mercer (Batman: Arkham Origins, Resident Evil: Damnation). All of the founders also operate as executive producers of the show. Additional executive producers include Brandon Auman (R.L. Stine’s The Hunting Hour, Star Wars Resistance), Chris Prynoski (Big Mouth, Downtown), Shannon Prynoski (Niko and the Sword of Light, Big Mouth), and Ben Kalina (Big Mouth, Niko and the Sword of Light). The Legend of Vox Machina is produced by Amazon Studios, Critical Role, and Titmouse.
In accordance with the official description of the new season, according to Variety, “After saving the realm from evil and destruction at the hands of the most terrifying power couple in Exandria, Vox Machina is faced with saving the world once again–this time, from a sinister group of dragons known as the Chroma Conclave.”
Granted there has been a great turnaround for this animated series, season two could be on hold due to the second season being in development concurrently with the first season. It’s possible that Titmouse Animation may have taken a break before the third season was greenlit, and if they did, it might take a little longer than 12 months to complete the third season.
