Less than a month after its February 27 premiere, Prime Video has picked up House of David for a second season. According to an official press release, the series has garnered 22 million viewers in its first 17 days. Wonder Project leaders Jon Erwin (Jesus Revolution, American Underdog) and Jon Gunn (Ordinary Angels) will return to direct, write, and executive produce the series.
“Jon Erwin and Jon Gunn’s compelling creative vision has solidified our belief in the series and we are excited to deliver more of the story to our customers,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios via the press release. “We look forward to a continued journey with Wonder Project as we further expand our slate to encompass faith-based series.”
House of David follows the biblical story of David, a young boy who would become the renowned king of Israel. The story begins with David as a teenager under the rule of King Saul. King Saul witnesses his power wane throughout time, and soon David is prophesized to become his natural successor. Amidst Saul’s initial love and then jealous disdain of him, David ventures on a journey filled with trials and joy to become the leader the nation needs and God calls.
The second season follows David’s ascent into politics following his famous defeat of the Philistine, Goliath. As his station rises, he will battle new temptations and trials from aboard and close to home; all situations to make him a well-versed leader.
The second season will see newcomer Michael Iskander return as David, along with Ali Suliman (Jack Ryan, Arthur the King) as King Saul, Ayelet Zuruer (Angels And Demons, Man Of Steel) as Queen Ahinoam, Stephan Lang (Avatar: The Way of Water, Don’t Breathe) as Samuel, Indy Lewis (Industry, King and Conqueror) as Mychal, and Yali Topol Margalith (Tattooist of Auschwitz, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder (2024)) as Mirab. The rest of the cast includes Ethan Kai (The Turkish Detective, Carnival Row 2), Sam Otto (Snowpiercer, The State), Oded Fehr (Star Trek, La Cocina), Louis Ferreira (Shogun, Breaking Bad), Davood Ghadami (Eastenders, The Chelsea Detective), Ashraf Barhom (Tyrant, The Last Planet), and Alexander Uloom (Heera, Qusa (The Story).
Erwin and Gunn are joined by executive producers Trey Callaway (Revolution, CSI: NY), Michael Frislev (Fargo, Hell on Wheels), Chad Oakes (On the Road, Broken Trail), Justin Rosenblatt (Flack, Hot Mess Holiday), Ethan Reiff (Kinghtfall, Sleeper Cell), Cyrus Voris (Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight, Bulletproof Monk) and Jonathan Walker (Shooter, RED). Dallas Jenkins, creator and producer-director of The CW’s The Chosen, serves as Wonder Project’s special advisor and shareholder.
“We are humbled by the extraordinary reaction this show has earned from the faith audience worldwide. Thanks to them and our partners at Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, Wonder Project will bring more of the Bible and this epic saga to a global audience. Congratulations to our incredible cast and crew,” said Erwin and Gunn in a joint statement via the press release.
New episodes of House of David are released weekly with its season finale set for Thursday, April 3 on Prime Video.
