

In a highly anticipated throwback, Prime Video has released the official teaser trailer for its upcoming Legally Blonde prequel, Elle, along with some exclusive first-look images at the series. The announcement comes ahead of its debut and the 2026 Amazon Upfront on May 11, revealing a premiere date of July 1 and that Prime Video has also ordered a second season of Elle (which is already in development).

Played in the original 2001 comedy film by Reese Witherspoon (Water for Elephants, The Morning Show), Elle follows the eponymous character before her college adventures at Harvard University – Lexi Minetree (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, All Alone Together) plays a high school-era Elle Woods in 1995 as she faces forbidden romance, tricky friendships, and questionable fashion choices on the challenging road to becoming the cultural icon we know and love today. Through it all, Elle keeps strong with her family as a support system, bonding closely with her mother and finding proof that they can face anything as long as they’re all together.
mxdwn reported prior on the development of the series, including Witherspoon’s February 2025 update and the announcement of its premiere date in January. Elle is also a part of Prime Video’s “Obsession Is In Session” fan campaign, used to highlight the platform’s growing lineup of Young Adult series and films; The series was featured in a compilation of first look teasers, and it was announced that Prime Video would be hosting an “Obsessed Fest” to celebrate the passion of fandom culture by connecting with audiences.
Elle’s parents, Wyatt and Eva Woods, will be played by Tom Everett Scott (The Summer I Turned Pretty, 13 Reasons Why) and June Diane Raphael (The Morning Show, Weapons) respectively. Additional credited cast includes Chandler Kinney (Lethal Weapon, Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin), Amy Pietz (Paradise, The Office), Gabrielle Policano (Babygirl, Neon Rage), Zac Looker (A Kind of Spark, Invasion), and Jacob Moskovitz (Here Comes the Flood, Y2K). Elle, is co-showrun and executive produced by Laura Kittrell (Insecure, High School) and Caroline Dries (The Vampire Diaries, Batwoman). The two are joined by Amanda Brown (Kikuyu Land, Between the Rains), Lauren Neustadler (Where the Crawdads Sing, Your Place or Mine), Marc Platt (La La Land, The Trial of the Chicago 7), and Witherspoon as EPs, along with Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect, Shotgun Wedding) – who also serves as director for the first two episodes of season one. Asmita Paranjape (Never Have I Ever, Mythic Quest) and Bryan J. Raber (Angie Tribeca, Reprisal) serve as producers, with Jen Regan (Atypical, Insecure) and Josie Craven (Daisy Jones & The Six, Truth Be Told) credited as supervising producers.
