Based on Walsh’s bestselling book series, Boys of Tommen centers on Johnny Kavanagh, a star rugby player approaching a potential professional career, and Shannon Lynch, a shy new student at the prestigious Tommen College in Ballylaggin, Ireland. As the two develop a relationship, Johnny struggles with an injury that could threaten his rugby career, while Shannon deals with a troubled and violent home life.
Nancy Surridge (Casualty) will star as Shannon, while Conor Sánchez (Mix Tape, Faithless, The Puzzle Lady) will portray Johnny. The cast additionally includes James O’Donoghue (Smother, Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale, Hardy Bucks) as Joey Lynch and Sophie McGibbon (Sense and Sensibility, Sorry You’re Leaving, Napoleon’s Nose) as Aoife Molloy. Walsh’s book series has gained popularity online, particularly among readers on BookTok. The story combines romance and a school sports setting with darker themes surrounding trauma, abuse and grief.
The adaptation joins Prime Video’s growing lineup of series based on popular novels. The streaming service has previously adapted titles including We Were Liars and The Summer I Turned Pretty, while its adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s (The Deal, The Mistake, The Score) Off Campus book series has already been renewed for second season.
Production on Boys of Tommen is currently underway. An official premiere date has not yet been announced, though the series is reportedly expected to arrive on Prime Video in 2027.
