Prime Video announced a new series, House of David, which is set to be a biblical drama based on an idea from a Christian-based movie producer, Jon Erwin (I Can Only Imagine, I Still Believe). According to Prime Video, after a four-month process, they have cast new-to-television actor Michael Iskander (Kimberly Akimbo) after an international search.
Prime Video shares that the new series “House of David tells the story of the ascent of biblical icon, David, who eventually becomes the most famous king of Israel. The series follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. At the direction of God, the prophet Samuel anoints an unlikely, outcast teenager as the new king. As Saul loses his power over his kingdom, David finds himself on a journey to discover and fulfill his destiny, navigating love, loss, and violence in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace. For one leader to rise, another must fall.”
Director and executive producer for the new series, Erwin, said, “House of David is our telling of a 3,000 year old hero’s journey, and it all starts with our David, Michael Iskander. Finding Michael and getting to work with him has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my life. Our entire cast is incredible, and I can’t wait for a global audience to get to know them the way I do,” via Prime Video.
Joining Iskander in the cast are also Martyn Ford (F9: The Fast Saga, Kingsmen: The Golden Circle) as Goliath, Ali Suliman (The Kingdom, Body of Lies) as King Saul, Ayelet Zurer ( Vantage Point, Man Of Steel) as Saul’s trusted wife Queen Ahinoam, Stephen Lang (Avatar, The Lost City) as Samuel, among many others in the supporting cast reports Prime Video.
According to Prime Video’s press release, the series is in production alongside Amazon MGM Studios, The Wonder Project, Nomadic Pictures, Argonauts, Lionsgate Television and Kingdom Story Company.
