Prime Video Announces New Animated Comedy ‘Kevin’ From Aubrey Plaza and Joe Wengert

Animation fans make way for a new series, Kevin is ready to claw his way into the comedy television space. Prime Video announced Thursday a greenlight on Kevin from the minds of Aubrey Plaza (Ingrid Goes West, Emily the Criminal) and Joe Wengert (Big Mouth, Kroll Show).

Prime Video confirmed that Plaza and Wengert are both writing and executive producing the show, with Wengert serving as showrunner. Joining as another executive producer is Dan Murphy (Top Chef Jr., Nailed It!). Additionally, the new series is produced by Evil Hag Productions in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios and Titmouse.

As for what to expect from the new animated series, Kevin follows the adventures of a fed-up housecat, ready to break ties with his current owner. As Kevin starts to face his commitment issues to people, he begins to wonder, “Is there a world where I don’t do the owner thing and am just… single for the rest of my life?” says the official press release

Wengert shared that the idea for Kevin was loosely-based on personal events, where his cat was caught in the middle of his break up. He said, “The real Kevin was with me during some of my lowest moments. This show is my chance to thank him– by creating a world where he can find less of a total bummer situation for himself,” via Prime Video.

Additionally, internal excitement for the show’s debut is apparent. Melissa Wolfe (The Fairly OddParents, Random! Cartoons), head of animation at Amazon MGM Studios, said “Aubrey, Joe, and Dan are telling a fantastic story and this is a great addition to our growing animated slate for our global Prime Video customers.” Wolfe continued to boast about the series, saying that because Kevin is “uniquely told through the lens of housecat, [the] hilarious series hits on the extremely relatable theme of self-discovery and living your desired life” via Prime Video.

There is no official date for Kevin’s premiere yet, but it will be available to stream through Prime Video in over 240 countries worldwide when it releases.
