Prime Video Announces Legally Blonde Prequel ‘Elle’ Is Set To Premiere On July First

Prime Video has officially confirmed that Elle, the much-anticipated Legally Blonde prequel series, will make its global debut on July 1st, 2026. Produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios, the show will be available to stream in over 240 countries. In a major show of confidence, Prime Video has already greenlit a second season before the first has even premiered.

The debut season of Elle takes us back to Elle Woods’ high school years, exploring the formative experiences that molded her into the legendary heroine of the original Legally Blonde, according to Prime Video. The series offers an origin story, revealing how her early life shaped the ambitious, iconic young woman audiences first fell in love with on the big screen.

“Twenty-five years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it’s a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with,” said Reese Witherspoon. “Discovering Lexi Minetree and watching her step into Elle’s fabulous shoes has been one of the most gratifying experiences of my career. I think our series’ themes of kindness, authenticity, and believing in yourself will resonate deeply with fans of the original films and new audiences alike. Working with our incredible Hello Sunshine team, Amazon and our visionary writers and directors to bring Elle’s high school journey to life has been a tremendous joy. I can’t wait to share Season One with the world and start rolling cameras on Season Two!”

Elle captures the heart, confidence, and optimism that made Elle Woods an enduring cultural icon, while giving audiences a fresh and deeply personal coming-of-age story,” said Peter Friedlander, Global Head of Television, Amazon MGM Studios. “Ordering a second season speaks to our belief in the creative vision and the incredible team behind the series, and we’re excited for audiences to experience Elle’s journey starting with Season One.”

The series was created by Laura Kittrell (Insecure, High School), who serves as co-showrunner and executive producer alongside Caroline Dries. The production boasts a high-profile executive team, including original Legally Blonde star Reese Witherspoon (The Morning Show, Cruel Intentions), Lauren Neustadter (Something From Tiffany’s, Your Place or Mine), Marc Platt (Snow White, Wicked), and Amanda Brown. Additionally, Pitch Perfect director Jason Moore helmed the first two episodes and also serves as an executive producer, via Prime Video.

Prive Video says the first season features Lexi Minetree (The Paramedic Who Stalked Me) stepping into the iconic role of Elle Woods, supported by June Diane Raphael (Burning Love) and Tom Everett Scott (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) as her parents, Eva and Wyatt. The main cast is rounded out by Gabrielle Policano (Babygirl), Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney (Zombies 2), and Zac Looker (A Kind of Spark).

The series also has an extensive recurring lineup, including James Van Der Beek (Dawson’s Creek), David Burtka (Dance-Off), Jessica Belkin (Last Straw), Logan Shroyer (Speechless), Amy Pietz (Caroline in the City), Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper (Family Switch), Brad Harder (A Stranger’s Child), Kayla Maisonet (Stuck in the Middle), and Lisa Yamada (Cruel Summer).
