According to Deadline, the Pretty Little Liars reboot, Pretty Little Liars: Summer School at Max has been canceled after two seasons. The decision comes three months after the series’ season two finale.
Max released a statement regarding the cancellation that says, “While Max will not be moving forward with a third season of Pretty Little Liars, we are so grateful to our co-creators, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Lindsay Calhoon Bring, as well as the team at Warner Bros. Television, for reintroducing fans to this new iteration of liars who band together to fight the latest creepy villain terrifying Millwood. Their unique and modern creative vision — combined with the immense talent of our cast and crew – gave the series a fun, horror-filled point of view that paid tribute to its original Rosewood roots.”
A reboot of ABC Family/Freeform’s drama of the same name, Pretty Little Liars debuted on Max in 2022 with the subtitle Original Sin. The show’s second season aired in May with the subtitle Summer School. The reboot reimagined the original series in the horror genre, pitting its characters against a number of slasher villains.
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School was led by Bailee Madison (Just Go with It, A Week Away), Maia Reficco (Kally’s Mashup, One Fast Move), Chandler Kinney (Zombies 2, Lethal Weapon), Malia Pyles (Baskets, Bella and the Bulldogs) and Zaria (Two Distant Strangers). It also starred Mallory Bechtel (Know Fear, Hereditary), Sharon Leal (Addicted, Why Did I Get Married?), Alex Aiono (See You on Venus, Finding ‘Ohana), Jordan Gonzalez (The Long Walk, Meta) and Elias Kacavas (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, Winter Spring Summer or Fall).
The series was created, executive-produced and written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Lindsay Calhoon Bring (Frequency, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina). Leslie Morgenstein (99 Days, Good Girls Get High), Gina Girolamo (666 Park Avenue, The Secret Circle), Michael Grassi (Riverdale, Schitt’s Creek) and Marlene King (Pretty Little Liars, Famous in Love) also served as executive producers. Muckle Man Productions and Alloy Entertainment produced the show in association with Warner Bros. Television.
