According to Variety, Apple TV’s Presumed Innocent has added a new cast member. Judith Light (Who’s The Boss, The Menu) is set to join the series second season. Light joins Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel, Superman), who will lead the series. Additionally, Matthew Rhys (A Beautiful Day In Neighborhood, The Americans), Courtney B. Vance (The Hunt For Red October, Hanburger Hill), Fiona Shaw (The Avengers, Harry Potter And The Sorcerers Stone), Michael Hsu Rosen (Pretty Smart, Looking), Lesley-Ann Brandt (Lucifer, Spartacus), Jack Reynor (Sing Street, Midsommar), John Magaro (The Big Short, Past Lives), and Ji-young Yoo (Freaky Tales, Smoking Tigers) will be among the cast. Details for Light’s character have yet to be released.
Variety has reported that the second season of Presumed Innocent is based on the book Dissection Of A Murder. The longline for the source material is as follows: “When Leila Reynolds (Brosnahan) is handed her first murder case, she’s shocked at how high-profile it is: the murder of a well-respected, well-known judge. This shouldn’t be the kind of case she’s leading; it’s way beyond her expertise. But the defendant, Jack Millman, is clear. He wants her, and only her.” The book is scheduled for publication in May.
According to Variety, Light has garnered numerous accolades over her career, including five Emmy nominations. In 2023, she won the award for her guest-starring role in Poker Face. Her other nominations were for her roles in Ugly Betty and Transparent.
Variety has reported that David E. Kelley (The Practice, Big Little Lies) developed the series for television. The first season featured Jake Gyllenhaal, who will continue on the show as an executive producer. J.J. Abrahams (Lost, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and Rachel Rusch Rich (Lovecraft Country, Castle Rock) executive produce from Bad Robot alongside Matthew Tinker (Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers) of DEKP.
According to Variety, the first season enjoyed both critical and commercial success after its premiere in June of 2024. The show was nominated for four awards at the Emmys, including lead actor in an anthology or limited series for Jake Gyllenhaal.
