Post-Suspension Airing Of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live’ Becomes Second-Most Viewed Episode

Media is still talking about Jimmy Kimmel (The Man Show, The Oscars), after Disney indefinately suspended Kimmel from Late-night TV from a joke that he told on the air about Charlie Kirks killer. According to to Deadline, The episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! that aired last Tuesday night, which his first show back after his suspension from ABC, has become the most-viewed and most-watched episode. This episode comes in right behind the Jimmy Kimmel Live! episode in 2014, post-Oscars. The Nielsen numbers came in at 6.26 million views from Tuesday night.  The post-Oscar episode holds the record at 7.1 million.

Deadline mentioned that the show Averages about 1.7 million views per episode in any given week. These new stats hsow how much national interest the Charlie Kirk incident had in the country. They Nielsen numbers do not include data from Nextstar and Sinclair, since they are still not air the episode on their local ABC affiliate stations. These ABC affiliate stations accounted for 23% of United States households.

Following many discussions between Kimmel and Disney, Kimmel Returned to Late-night TV as teh media conversations grew louder and louder. Kimmel received lot of support, not only from other late-night hosts but also from other celebrities. Mark Ruffalo (Just Like Heaven, 13 Going on 30) Meryle Streep, (The Devil Wears Prada, Out of Africa) and Tome Hanks (Big, Forest Gump), plus republican Ted Cruz, chairman of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, spoke out.

Deadline also mentioned that Disney added that in addition to the regular viewership, Kimmel’s monologue alone had more than 26 million views on YouTube and other social media platforms. In just 12 hours after it was aired the monolugue had already received over 11 million views. This could very well be, Kimmel most watch monologue of all time.
