Possible Third ‘Squid Game’ Season Being Discussed Ahead Of Second Season

In November, Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-Hyuk confirmed that Netflix had green lit a season two for the popular Korean television show. Now, Dong-Hyuk confirmed that he is in talks with Netflix about a possible third season.

“I’m in talks with Netflix over season two as well as season three. We will come to a conclusion any time soon,” he said in an interview with The Korea Times.

This is the first time Dong-Hyuk has spoken about the show returning since confirming the second season in November, but it does not come as a surprise seeing as how the show brought in millions of viewers within the first week of its arrival on the streaming service. In fact, within the first two weeks the show had reached No. 1 in 90 different countries.

As to what audiences can expect for the new seasons, Dong-Hyuk has shared a few of his ideas for season two while not yet describing what may happen in this newly announced third season.

“I don’t have well developed plans for ‘Squid Game 2.’ It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors,” Dong-Hyuk told Forbes.

A few ideas Dong-Hyuk threw out to the people at Forbes were such stories like following Gi-hun, the main character from the first season, as he traverses the world trying to stop further rich men from performing their own versions of the titular game. This could open the door for an American setting, but another idea strays from the former main character and more focuses on the villain, the man in the mask to be specific, and the show would follow him trying to put together another game.

Audiences can stream the entire first season of Squid Game exclusively on Netflix.
