Fans of the series Ray Donovan have been extremely upset after the series was cancelled by Showtime last week. The drama starring Liev Schreiber was abruptly to end after seven seasons, with the seventh season having aired on Jan. 19 with a cliffhanger ending.
Fans have called for another season, avoid the show ending in a cliffhanger. Both showrunner David Hollander and Schreiber have spoken out to encourage fans to keep protesting the cancellation.
The popular drama follows the story of Schreiber’s character Ray Donovan, a fixer for the rich and famous is Los Angeles and New York. The show was created by Ann Biderman and the cast included Eddie Marsan, Dash Mihok, Pooch Hall, Steven Bauer, Jon Voight, and Graham Rogers.
Hollander claims everyone involved in the series was blindsided by Showtime’s decision to cancel the popular series. This revelation has further ignited anger among the fans of the show.
Prior to the cancellation, both Schreiber and Hollander were hoping there would be another season. They were in conversations with the network about a renewal for a season eight.
The series was one of Showtimes longest running shows with 82 episodes and 10 Emmy nominations. The decision to cancel the series came after Gary Levine, co-head of entertainment at Showtime, mentioned during a press tour in January that the series was towards the end of its run.
“It seems like your voices have been heard,” Schreiber said via an Instagram message. “Too soon to say how or when, but with a little luck and your ongoing support, there will be more Ray Donovan.”
