The lights are going down on the groundbreaking FX series Pose, which released the first trailer for season three today. The final season promises to be a tearjerker, with the trailer teasing painful goodbyes and new beginnings, via Vulture.
It was announced earlier this month that season three of Pose would be its last. Series co-creator, writer, and executive producer Steven Canals (Dead of Summer) broke the news, stating that they were ending the show the way they wanted to. Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story) and Brad Falchuck (Scream Queens) also co-executive produce.
The series picks ups in 1994 in the season three trailer and times have changed. Long gone are the glory days of balls. Instead, they’ve been replaced by something more superficial and commercial while the AIDS crisis continues. Pray Tell, portrayed by Billy Porter (The Twilight Zone), says in the trailer: “Balls ain’t what they used to be. Cash prizes and tacky lipsticks. There used to be a sense of urgency and community and then folks just started dying.”
Porter won the Best Actor in Drama Series Emmy for his portrayal as the lively emcee in season one. Now in this final chapter, Porter is riveting in the trailer alone as he deals with his own health issues and mortality. Blanca, portrayed by MJ Rodriguez (Luke Cage), is now working as a nurse in a hospital but she misses the way things used to be. Everybody has become disenchanted with what balls have become, and Blanca convinces all her old friends to return to the ballroom for one last time .
Indya Moore (Queen & Slim) returns as Angel, Hailie Sahar (Eastsiders) as Lulu, Dyllón Burnside (High Maintenance) as Ricky, Angel Bismark Curiel (Monsters and Men) as Esteban, and Dominique Jackson (American Gods) as Elektra.
Pose will premiere with two episodes on FX, May 2, at 10 p.m. ET. The season will consist of seven episodes in total. Both seasons one and two are available to stream on Netflix.
