Portlandia, IFC’s successful sketch series, has been renewed for not one, but two more seasons. Created, written by and starring Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, the show has won a Peabody Award for being among “the best in electronic media.”
Armisen recently left Saturday Night Live after ten seasons, but Portlandia’s renewal order will keep him busy until 2015. The series’ fourth and fifth seasons will each be ten episodes.
In a press release, IFC President Jennifer Caserta stated, “Portlandia has celebrated sustainable local agriculture, underemployment, avian crafting, gender politics, intense bicycle messengers and so much more. We can now celebrate two more seasons.”
The series, set and filmed in Portland, portrays Oregon’s largest city in a humorous, often satirical light. The majority of the production crew is from Oregon, and Portlandia has become a celebrated element of the city.
Season 4 will begin in early 2014.
