According to Deadline, HBO’s drama series based on the Green Lantern DC comic titled Lanterns has cast Poorna Jagannathan (Ramy, The Night Of) for a recurring role. Jagannathan is known for her roles on Never Have I Ever, Big Little Lies, Ten Year Old Tom, The Wilds, Defending Jacob, Messiah, Goodrich and many others.
Lanterns created by Chris Mundy ( (Ozark, True Detective), Damon Lindelof ((Watchmen, Lost)) and Tom King ( (Heroes in Crisis, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow)) is a new addition to the DC Studios family as it adapts the story of Green Lantern in a new form. The series based on the DC comics and follows an intergalactic space force that patrols and protects the universe using their green power rings to manifest different items through their willpower. The series follows and focuses on the story of John Stewart a recruit to the Lantern Corp and his mentor Lantern legend Hal Jordan as they are thrown into a dark mystery on Earth as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.
As per the Deadline, Jagannathan will play Zoe, a confident and poised character in any setting. Zoe is very cunning and composed, even more so than the influential men around her. She is also rumored to be the love interest of Green Lantern John Stewart.
The currently announced casting for the series along with Jagannathan includes Kyle Chandler (Manchester by the Sea, King Kong), as Hal Jordan, Aaron Pierce (Rebel Ridge, Brother) as John Stewart, Garret Dillahunt (12 Years a Slave, Raising Hope) as William Macon, Kelly Macdonald (Brave, Never Let Me Go) as Sheriff Kerry, and many more to be announced.
The series is reported to have eight episodes and is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. Creator Mundy will serve as showrunner, Lindelof and King will be co-writing and also serve as executive producers. James Hawes (One Life, Black Mirror) will be directing the series’ first two episodes and executive produce.
Lanterns have yet to reveal an official premiere window for the series.
