Jack Davenport will be a long way from Broadway in his follow-up to NBC’s Smash. The English actor has been cast in a medical drama set in the 1960s.
Breathless, which will air on ITV and as a part of PBS’ Masterpiece series, takes place in a London hospital fifty years ago, “a world in which everything and everyone has their place.” Beneath the surface, though, secrets and deception threaten to stir up trouble in the characters’ lives.
Davenport will play a surgeon who believes he can make a difference for the women of the time, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
The director of global television distribution at ITV, Tobias de Graaf, has described Breathless as having “strong global appeal.” PBS Masterpiece executive Rebecca Eaton echoed these thoughts, citing the series’ strong storytelling in regards to its female characters as a positive element.
Breathless also stars Zoe Boyle (Downton Abbey), Iain Glen (Game of Thrones) and Natasha Little (Mistresses).
