There was never any confirmation going around that Jon Bernthal (The Walking Dead, Fury, The Bear) would become The Punisher again in another Marvel Studios project, but that doesn’t seem the actual truth. A new photo with a fan on the set of Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ TV series, Daredevil: Born Again, has raised suspicions in fans, Comicbook.com reports.
According to Comicbook.com, this photo shows Bernthal in the Frank Castle costume, which was his character in the Netflix series Daredevil, right where the new series is filming at the Brooklyn restaurant, Hometown BBQ, currently. It seems like he was covered in fake blood for a possible fight scene. Seems like the poster behind him, confirmed by fans in the comments, is part of the series’ set. You can see the picture here.
Fans, according to Comicbook.com, wanted his return to Marvel Studios, but the company usually does not state outright if certain actors will be returning to their projects in order to create suspense. An example of this is when the company did not reveal that all three actors who have played Spiderman would be in Spiderman: No Way Home. Furthermore, when the actor spoke to Collider in an interview at the beginning of the year, he expressed the desire to portray the role of The Punisher again.
“I think there’s a reason why that character has resonated as deeply and strongly as he has,” Bernthal explained, via Comicbook.com. “In the hearts and minds of comic book fans and first responders and people in the military and people all over the globe. I think there’s a little bit of Frank Castle in everybody. He exists very strongly inside me and I care about that character deeply. I also know that it’s absolutely essential that if we do it, we do it right and we have real sacred integrity to the source material and to what is at the core of Frank. I’m gonna do my absolute best to make sure that, if and when we do it, we do it right.”
Daredevil: Born Again has not concluded production yet.
