Philip Seymour Hoffman, Kathryn Hahn To Star In ‘Trending Down’

Philip Seymour Hoffman will star in and executive produce the premium cable network’s comedy pilot Trending Down. Showtime is anticipated to make the announcement Tuesday during its presentation at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour in Beverly Hills, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

In an announcement likely to come next week, Kathryn Hahn will be appointed as the lead female role in the comedy.

Showtime described the show as “a blistering attack on our youth-obsessed culture, and a darkly comic examination of what it means to matter. Or matter not.” Author of “Hope: A Tragedy and Foreskin’s Lament: A Memoir” and This American Life contributor Shalom Auslander created the series and will also executive produce with Hoffman.

Hoffman will play the lead role as Thom Payne, described as “a man facing his own obsolescence after his advertising agency is taken over.” Hahn will play his wife, Lee Payne.
