According to Comicbook, Peter Atencio (Key and Peele, The Machine), director of the FX series The Last Man on Earth, said that the series deserves a proper finale. Like many other shows the creators of the series were unable to write a proper real ending for the series due to its cancellation. The fourth installment of the series ended on an unclear note. Atencio recently lamented the abbreviated ending of the series which to this day still has a cult following that wishes to see it return. During an interview with Comicbook for The AfterParty season two Atencio mentions how he hopes to see an ending for The Last Man on Earth.
Atencio told ComicBook, “That’s a show that, if ever there was a one-hour special or a two-hour movie to wrap up the narrative, that show so deserves it. It was amazing to see what Will did with it, so I was as disappointed as everyone else when it ended early.”
The Last Man on Earth aired on March first, 2015, and ended on May sixth, 2018 when it was canceled. Created by Will Forte (The Lego Movie) and airing on Fox for four seasons, the series tells the comedic story of a man who wishes for the company after the human race was wiped out by a virus. To his surprise, the company he longs for appears in the form of other survivors that he meets along his journey.
Casts for the series include Forte, January Jones (X-Men: First Class), Cleopatra Coleman (A Lot of Nothing), Kristien Schall (Gravity Falls), Mel Rodriguez (Little Miss Sunshine), Mary Steenburgen (Time After Time), Fred Armisen (Portlandia), Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso), Chris Elliot (Groundhog Day) and many others.
